As I posted a few days ago, I’ve been playing with Google Analytics. Which is seriously cool and allows me to see where all my visitors come from, what they click on and how much time they’re spending on the site.
It’s been rather interesting seeing what people look for and read, the biggest eye opener is that I actually haven’t been getting as many hits as I once did, probably because I don’t post nearly as much as I used too. The other interesting thing is the things that people search for and find my site with and what they read when they arrive.
The most read article is one on Open Source Desktop Publishing software I wrote a really long time ago and the search term that brings the most people to this site is “Rachel Leigh Cook” (my favourite actress), the most linked to item on this site is a picture of Rachel Leigh Cook which is a bit disturbing, does this mean that if I ran a Rachel fan page I might actually get more visitors?
It’s only been a few days and I don’t nearly have enough data to form any clear conclusions but already the info coming out since switching it on has been interesting. I can see that if I post something I get a little spike in my traffic and it appears that if I talk about women/girls (preferably famous) or open source I get more visitors. I guess the internet is still ruled by a bunch of open source geeks who desperately want a women.
thought so!
