Katie Melua Concert

Lastnight (Wednesday, 24 September 2008) Claire and I went to see Katie Melua live in concert at the Grand Arena at Grandwest. It was soooo awesome!!!!

You have to understand I’m a huge! Katie Melua fan… we sat in block C and while they weren’t golden circle seats they were still good seats. She was awesome, perhaps even better than on her CD’s. She had a very good band with her too, although I really enjoyed the songs where it was just her sitting on a chair playing her guitar. A friend of mine who also went to the concert also said she was awesome and loved the way she just walked on stage and sang her heart out, no mess no fuss. It wasn’t a massive “show” no dancers, no expensive effects… just a girl who can sing unbelievalby well and her guitar and an awesome band. The concert was about 2hours long (including the “encore” bit she did) and was way too short. Continue reading

My Mom’s Birthday

It was my mom’s birthday on the 8th of August and the family and a few friends went out to Panarotti’s in George for her birthday. (And no I’m not going to tell you how old she was.)

Help – Photo’s

I’m hoping to use the power of the blogosphere (that’s assuming this little site is in it) to find something.

I’m looking for a photo graph of New York at night or in Black & White. Would be really awesome if you can see the twin towers in it still, which means its pre-9/11.? I want to get it printed and give it to someone as a present, but I can’t find any really good ones so far. (I’m busy scouring flickr as I type this.) Because its going to be printed it needs to be a high resolution image. If you know of any of London taken at night or black & white those would be awesome too.

I did see one in a shop over the weekend that would be perfect, it was rather expensive though (R 5000) and it was huge. (1.8m x 1.8m) I’m looking for something just bigger than a A4 page.

Acronym’s are Seriously Stupid

I’ve been dealing with a bunch of project managers, directors and marketing people lately and they all seem to speak in this foreign language that ever so slightly resembles English.

UAT, ERP, EPM, EBQ? Is there a massive shortage of letters all of a sudden?

We need new words…

It must be because I have a sick mind or something but I just don’t think the word “probe” should be used in headlines. I was reading News24 and I saw the headline “UKZN probing two professors.” my first thought was… they’re doing what to them? Can’t they use a word like investigate? I think it should read “UKZN investigating two professors”, I realise its a few letters longer and probably doesn’t have the same shock value but it some how sounds a little “cleaner” doesn’t it?

And then there is my pet hate, on Facebook you have this thing that allows you to send a ping/message to someone on your friends list, but they’ve called it “Poke”. So what’s wrong with this? Take a look at the picture on the right, note that I can click “Poke Wilma!”, the problem with that? So imagine the discussion I had with her boyfriend, “Dale: Can I poke Wilma?”, “Boyfriend: YOU WANT TO DO WHAT?!?!?!”. I rest my case.

Engrish?

While wondering round the mall I saw this on box in a shop window.

Guessed what this thing actually is? or at least what it does? Zoomed out picture below.

Anyone know where I can find one of these Pens?

Unknown PenI have this pen that I really like, they were given away free at a “Dog Food Seminar” (No I’m not joking… and no I don’t own a dog. They had good free “people” food so I went.) Now I realise that it’s pink which counts against it but it writes really well and is comfortable to use and I like it, no matter what colour, race or religious preference it may be.

The problem is that the back round plunger thingie (technical term) tends to break off in a way that it can’t be glued on anymore. So I now have 2 of these broken pens that don’t work and I would like to get a replacement pen because I like them so much, preferable in something other than pink. But I can’t find them… admittedly I haven’t looked that hard but I haven’t seen them in any of the stationary sections of the local stores.
