HTML5 – Online Paint/Drawing Application

Sketchpad – Online Paint/Drawing Application – This is all done in HTML5 no flash which is actually pretty awesome, I really need to do some reading up about HTML5.

As more people switch to the new versions of browsers that support HTML5 I’ve been seeing more and more sites adopting it instead of Flash, while this is not going to happen overnight it appears more people like the “openness” of HTML5. Flash has a few problems, most notably its a closed?proprietary?system that we have no real control or influence over, I don’t think that Adobe is actually an evil company or anything but having no open standard for flash means that we’ll only see Flash on a particular operating system and architecture if Adobe decide its worth while porting to it.

Which is a problem if you’re hoping to see Flash on some of the more exotic operating systems and hardware combinations.

Official Wedding Photo’s

I’ve finally gotten round to uploading the official photo’s from the wedding, they’ve been on my machine since early December but Christmas and the holidays and my laziness got in the way.

They’re in a OVI Gallery again, same as the honeymoon photo’s so once you’re on the official site you can click through to the gallery, please leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

You can go find the official photo’s on the wedding website.

Sunday Lunch – Improved Grilled Cheese – Experiment No 2

Sunday Lunch – Improved Grilled Cheese – 15/02/2010, originally uploaded by Dale Nunns.

Sunday I was determined to improve on the grilled cheese sandwich. This time I started off by slicing the cheese rather than grating it which meant I had better control over how much cheese what put onto the sandwich which would hopefully combat the oilyness. I took a small amount of butter, melted it and brushed it on the outside of the bread, just enough to get the bread to go golden brown, but not enough that you could actually taste it.

Then I decided to add some pastrami to the cheese to add something to the flavour, this made a huge difference to the sandwich.

The next trick was ensuring the?temperature?of the stove was kept at medium-low and then putting a lid on the top so that everything is nicely toasted and turning the sandwich after a short period of time.

I’ll call this experiment a success, it was as sickening oily/fatty as the first and thanks to the pastrami tasted a lot better. I will though need to experiment with a few other cheeses, if anyone knows of a good “cheap” cheese that melts nicely and doesn’t go like rubber available at Pick n Pay or Woolworths please let me know in the comments.

Saturday Breakfast – Grilled Cheese Experiment – No 1

Saturday Breakfast – Grilled Cheese Experiment – 13/02/2010, originally uploaded by Dale Nunns.

On Saturday morning I decided to try out the grilled cheese recipe I had found online for breakfast.

I followed the instructions almost perfectly and while it smelt and looked great, it was a little too oily/fatty I actually felt quite sick after eating it. I think it had way too much butter and I might of put on too much cheese.

The other problem might have been the cheap cheddar that I used, I’ll have to experiment with different cheeses to find one that melts nicely and doesn’t go too rubbery or oily.

How to hide the Buzz from your Gmail inbox.

If you’re like me and have been playing around with Google Buzz then your inbox is probably filling up with entries from your friends as they comment on your buzz’s. ?I like to keep my inbox clean and use the notifications for the inbox to alert me if there is mail that I actually need to read.

So what follows is the steps that will allow your buzz updates to skip your inbox, you could do something else with them if you liked but this seemed the simplest. Buzz notifications are automatically tagged by Gmail with the buzz lable so they’re easy to spot, you just need to create a filter for them and then either move them away or hide them or whatever you want.

Click the create filter shortcut in Gmail

On the next step fill in the “Has the words:” field the text, label:buzz

And then finally tell Gmail what to do with it, in my case it keeps the inbox and gets archived straight away.

Simple wedding planning with Google Docs

Google would go launch this after our wedding, but it’ll hopefully help out someone else who’s about to or planning on tying the knot.

Official Google Blog: Simple wedding planning with Google Docs.

Google docs was very useful when we were planning our wedding, we used it for our online RSVP system and we kept things like guest lists and other notes in it which is helpful when you’re arguing or trying to settle an argument or prevent one with the in-laws, decorators, florists, future wife etc and don’t have your laptop with handy.

Weddings are all about lists and conflict resolution, trust me I’ve been there.

(Oh and to my wife and in-laws I love you all alot…)

They were just worried about an explosion of flavor!

I love this story I found via Boing Boing

U.S. officials say a suspicious material found in a passenger’s bag that triggered a security scare at a California airport on Tuesday actually turned out to be bottles of honey.

My favourite part is this paragraph

Two Transportation Security Administration officers were also treated and released from the hospital after being exposed to what were described as “fumes” from the bottles.

I understand that security is important but I definitely don’t want to fly into America or in America, this is getting a little too crazy.

Hot Day in Cape Town

The office Aircon is at warp speed trying its best to cool the offices down and its only 8:30 in the morning. According to the little weather applet on my Vista desktop its 21deg in Cape Town.

I knew it was going to be a hot day when I woke up this morning and the sheet I tried to sleep under was clinging too me.

Looking at the forecast for the rest of the week it looks like things are going to cool down a little which would be nice, I’m not a huge fan of the really hot days.
