Saturday Breakfast – Grilled Cheese Experiment – No 1

Saturday Breakfast – Grilled Cheese Experiment – 13/02/2010, originally uploaded by Dale Nunns.

On Saturday morning I decided to try out the grilled cheese recipe I had found online for breakfast.

I followed the instructions almost perfectly and while it smelt and looked great, it was a little too oily/fatty I actually felt quite sick after eating it. I think it had way too much butter and I might of put on too much cheese.

The other problem might have been the cheap cheddar that I used, I’ll have to experiment with different cheeses to find one that melts nicely and doesn’t go too rubbery or oily.

How to hide the Buzz from your Gmail inbox.

If you’re like me and have been playing around with Google Buzz then your inbox is probably filling up with entries from your friends as they comment on your buzz’s. ?I like to keep my inbox clean and use the notifications for the inbox to alert me if there is mail that I actually need to read.

So what follows is the steps that will allow your buzz updates to skip your inbox, you could do something else with them if you liked but this seemed the simplest. Buzz notifications are automatically tagged by Gmail with the buzz lable so they’re easy to spot, you just need to create a filter for them and then either move them away or hide them or whatever you want.

Click the create filter shortcut in Gmail

On the next step fill in the “Has the words:” field the text, label:buzz

And then finally tell Gmail what to do with it, in my case it keeps the inbox and gets archived straight away.

How To Make a Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich Every Time Home Hacks | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh

I have to try this one,?How To Make a Perfect Grilled Cheese Sandwich Every Time although I don’t think the wife will like it for Valentine’s dinner.

I have to admit I’ve never really put much thought into the humble grilled cheese sandwich, but this howto seems pretty simple… gonna try it and let you guys know what its like. There are some pretty good ideas in the comments too.

Now I’m hungry 🙁

Simple wedding planning with Google Docs

Google would go launch this after our wedding, but it’ll hopefully help out someone else who’s about to or planning on tying the knot.

Official Google Blog: Simple wedding planning with Google Docs.

Google docs was very useful when we were planning our wedding, we used it for our online RSVP system and we kept things like guest lists and other notes in it which is helpful when you’re arguing or trying to settle an argument or prevent one with the in-laws, decorators, florists, future wife etc and don’t have your laptop with handy.

Weddings are all about lists and conflict resolution, trust me I’ve been there.

(Oh and to my wife and in-laws I love you all alot…)

Visitor Stats

Been too busy with other stuff lately and haven’t been posting as often on this site as I would like, noticed its had a bad effect on the stats for the site over the past few months 🙁

The peaks in the above graph is when I’ve posted something on the site. I need to discipline?my self to post something daily, ideally twice a day. It’s hard work trying to come up with something intelligent to write about each day, but I think at the very least I’ll stick up a few links found that day or something like that.

The really odd and surprising thing as been my new most read article on this site which is the “Awesome Lighter Cufflinks” post which since being posted has received over 200 visits.

I also need to do a little maintenance on this site and add a bit of colour too it, I’m getting rather tired of the plain blue, white and black that I’ve had since starting the site. (Those of you reading this through a RSS reader will never know the difference though.)

Hacking an Eveready Radio

My wife has a cheap Eveready radio that she bought to listen to Gareth Cliff on 5fm in the mornings in the office. The radio isn’t anything fancy, its a basic radio with a little digital clock on it.

The biggest problem with this radio is that it appears that the battery only lasts a few weeks and they cost R 25.00 a battery… the radio was only about R 45.00 (it didn’t come with a battery though).?The conspiracy theorists in me says the reason it goes through batteries so quickly is because its made (or at least branded by) a battery company.

Battery

Yesterday the battery started to die and the wife wanted me to buy another battery for it… Thats when I had a light bulb moment (to quote Oprah) and decided instead of buying another battery I would hack the radio to run off the mains power.

I got approval from the Wife for this project, although it couldn’t cost more than the battery or a new radio.

They were just worried about an explosion of flavor!

I love this story I found via Boing Boing

U.S. officials say a suspicious material found in a passenger’s bag that triggered a security scare at a California airport on Tuesday actually turned out to be bottles of honey.

My favourite part is this paragraph

Two Transportation Security Administration officers were also treated and released from the hospital after being exposed to what were described as “fumes” from the bottles.

I understand that security is important but I definitely don’t want to fly into America or in America, this is getting a little too crazy.

Hot Day in Cape Town

The office Aircon is at warp speed trying its best to cool the offices down and its only 8:30 in the morning. According to the little weather applet on my Vista desktop its 21deg in Cape Town.

I knew it was going to be a hot day when I woke up this morning and the sheet I tried to sleep under was clinging too me.

Looking at the forecast for the rest of the week it looks like things are going to cool down a little which would be nice, I’m not a huge fan of the really hot days.

Blog comment spam

Almost everyone who runs a blog, website or even has an email address has to deal with SPAM. Thankfully between gmail (Google) and my ISP I don’t get much spam in my email anymore. My blogs are all running Akismet which appears to work very well, although every now and then a comment slips through.

This comment which slipped through made me laugh:

Advantageously, the article is really the freshest on this precious topic. I harmonise with your conclusions and will thirstily look forward to your approaching updates. Saying thanks will not just be adequate, for the exceptional clarity in your writing. I will directly grab your rss feed to stay informed of any updates. Genuine work and much success in your business dealings!

Looks like it was translated directly using a “foreign language” to English dictionary, I’m pretty sure even Google Translate will do a better job.
