Cool Cufflinks

cufflinksI don’t wear cuff links, in fact I’ve never worn them… but I have fond memories of when I was kid and my father would be getting ready for an important dinner or similar event sitting on his bed scratching through his box of cuff links.

Lately in?preparation?for my wedding I’ve been wondering if I shouldn’t perhaps wear cuff links to my wedding, that got me doing some searching online for “funky” cuff links, these ones by the designer Jan Leslie I think are awesome… although they’re not exactly “me”, but they are still very nice. They’ve got a few very nice ones for golfing?enthusiasts.

SGI personal Supercomputer

SGI, previously (or better) known as Silicon Graphics Incoporated have released a “personal” supercomputer. It can go up to 80 cores with up to 1 Terabyte of RAM. I can think of plenty of uses for this, although I’m guessing its gonna be a little loud and you might need a re-enforced desk if you plan on putting on the desk.

Octane III is office-ready with a pedestal, one-by-two-foot form factor, whisper-quiet operations, easy-to-use features, low maintenance requirements and support for standard office power outlets. While a typical workstation has only eight cores and moderate memory capacity, the superior design of the Octane III permits up to 80 high-performance cores and nearly 1TB of memory for unparalleled performance…
Octane III is easily configurable with single- and dual-socket node choices, and offers a wide selection of performance, storage, graphics, GP-GPU and integrated networking options. Yielding the same leading power efficiencies inherent in all SGI Eco-Logical compute designs, Octane III supports the latest Intel processors to capitalize on greater levels of performance, flexibility and scalability.

Play with someone else’s wife tonight.

While browsing around the web I came across the following banner ad a few times.

Play with someone else's wife tonight.

And if you click on it you go through to the Ashley Madison Agency website which advertises its self as the “Premier Discreet Dating Service.” From what I can tell they?specialise?in matching people up who want to have affairs. I have to admit it seems a rather odd kind of dating service to run and perhaps even weirder to actually use. But I guess it is a rather niche market that they’re “servicing”.

I guess I’m just not as “open” to these kinds of things as other people…

I realise now that the banner ad and its tag line are rather catchy as it got me to actually click the link even though I’m a soon to be happily married man (I hope) and have no interest in having an affair and almost never click banner ads.

Russian billionaire fits mega-yacht with anti-photo shield

According to this article from Wired (found via BoingBoing) the russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has fitted his yacht with an anti-photo shield that uses lasers to overpower the CCD sensors in digital camera’s destroying any photo’s of his yacht or the guests on it.

Yacht

I’m not sure exactly how or even if this works, I’m assuming the article has been “dumbed” down along the way and that actually this thing has some kind of laser (perhaps a IR one?) that over powers the sensitive CCD sensors in the camera’s probably making the yacht appear like a giant ball of light. If it is something like that it should be possible to still get a photo if the right filters where used on the camera. I doubt very much it has a laser that tracks down every camera and fires a burst at it that selectively destroys images of the yacht. Continue reading

Ferrari – Lap Time Chronograph

Ferrari - Lap Time Chronograph WatchAs I’ve said before I have a thing for watches, I found this one while browsing around the Ferrari store. It’s a Ferrari designed watch and it looks awesome, its a bit too pricey for me but I really wouldn’t mind one.

It’s a dual analogue/digital time piece with high-precision swiss movement, it supports 3 time zones and is water resistant to 5 ATM’s, its got an alarm and date function all in a very attractive black stainless steel casing with a unbreakable glass face and black rubber strap.

Obviously the watch has got the Ferrari name and logo all over it, but I think its tastefully done.

Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk Watch

Seiko - Spring Drive Spacewalk WatchI love watches, always have… Strangely I don’t own a lot of them, I only have 2 watches neither of which are particularly fancy. When window shopping in malls I always go and stare (drool) over the various watches in the jewellery shop windows.

Seiko make some very nice watches, some even include slide rules…

This Seiko Spring Drive – Spacewalk was designed to go into space, which I think is pretty cool… the other big advantage is that it actually looks nice.

SEIKO Spring Drive Spacewalk is designed and built for space.
In October 2008, Richard Garriott, the renowned video game designer and adventurer, will become the sixth private space explorer. Richard will conduct his space mission aboard the International Space Station, and during his flight, he intends to conduct a spacewalk, which would make him the first private individual to do so. As steps out into free space, he will be wearing a SEIKO Spring Drive Spacewalk.
