Bean Bags

On my trek round the cape this past weekend we saw two guys loading a small old Bantam bakkie with bean bags.

Would have loved to see what it looked like going round corners.

Densest Element

DENSEST ELEMENT

A major research institution has just announced the discovery of the densest element yet known to science. The new element has been named “Bushcronium. ” Bushcronium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 311.

These particles are held together by dark forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons. The symbol for Bushcronium is “W.”

Bushcronium’ s mass actually increases over time, as morons randomly interact with various elements in the atmosphere and become assistant deputy neutrons in a Bushcronium molecule, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientists to believe that Bushcronium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration.

This hypothetical quantity is referred to as “Critical Morass.” When catalyzed with money, Bushcronium activates Foxnewsium, an element that radiates orders of magnitude more energy, albeit as incoherent noise, since it has 1/2 as many peons but twice as many morons.

Which Star Trek Character am I?

I went and did one of those silly online tests to see which Star Trek character I am,? according to the test I’m Georgi LaForge, which oddly enough is probably a good fit for me. I would’ve loved to have been Jean-Luc Picard or perhaps Wesley Crusher or Data.

Recording Your Entire Life

I was reading a post, “Recording Your Entire Life” and all the comments about it on Slashdot, then went on to reading the linked article at Scientific American (A Digital Life).

I was immediately reminded of a movie called “The Final Cut” with Robin Williams. The movie is a little creeping.. basically the idea is that people could have a “Zoe Implant” put into there unborn children that would record everything they see and hear. When the person dies, the implant is removed and loaded into a fancy editing station where a cutter then edits it into a highlights package that is played for the family and friends of the person who died.

Communication and Customer Service

Joel @ Joel On Software has a post up about Customer Service and how important it is that you have good customer service.

I have to agree with what he’s written, Customer Service is important, very important but it’s also important how you deliver that customer service. I get to deal with a lot of companies and it’s true that the ones I recommend to everyone else and the ones I constantly use are those that provide good customer service.

Let me tell you a true story about something that happened a few weeks ago that should illustrate my point.

Can you improve on the wrist watch?

Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

I like watches of all shapes and sizes and while I’ll admit that I prefer a digital timepiece I love the elegance and genius of the true analogue watches, those that work and keep accurate time with out even a battery. But can you improve on the normal everyday wrist watch?

Trip to Mosselbay..

Some friends and I took a trip out to Mosselbay for lunch and ended up spending a few hours chatting, driving round and taking a short walk round parts of Mosselbay.

dsc00148.JPGdsc00149.JPGdsc00147.JPGWe had lunch at Delfino’s which is right on the ocean and you have wonderful views of the waves breaking on rocks, also got to see a small school of dolphins.

dsc00154.JPGdsc00153.JPGdsc00152.JPGWe took a walk up towards the Light House and saw a few dassies that were there. In the photo on the far left you can see the “chief” dassie that was looking down on the others.
Below are some photo’s from halfway up where there is big cave that’s been carved out of the rocks by the sea centuries ago. Below are some pictures taken from the entrance to the cave and from various places along the way.

The guy standing alone is a friend, Renier and the other two are Coenie and his girlfriend Sunelle.
These pictures were taken from the car as we drove round Mosselbay.

Mosselbay has got lots of great old stone buildings that are still standing and being used as shops and restaurants. I really do wish I could spend more time in the town and wonder about.
The trip to Mosselbay was a great way to spend a day off and I it was awesome to spend some time with my friends and sit around and chat about “stuff”.
All these pictures were taken with my Cellphone (Sony Ericsson w850i) it was a sort of spur of the moment trip so I didn’t have my Sony Digital camera with me.
