How we think…

So yesterday I posted a question about whether a plane on a treadmill runway would take off and most people say No it won’t… which is actually wrong it will take off…

Why?

Well you see people learn by a sort of “pattern recognition” if we don’t know anything about something we’ll make a comparison between it and something we do know something about and then base our assumptions on that. Everyone thinks about running on a treadmill which is very different to putting a plane on a treadmill.

They call it Shuffle…

Screen shotSo you take a rather large playlist with about 60 songs, you then load it up in Listen Gnome hit the shuffle button and then play…

Guess which songs are played one after each other? Sheryl Crow… guess who’s music I’ve decided I don’t like? Sheryl Crow…

At this point you’re wondering how many Sheryl Crow songs there are… 3.

I’m glad I removed the Britney Spears and Aqua songs from the playlist..

Need some help settling an argument and you’re all smarter than me…

A plane equipped with fixed horizontal engines and wheel landing gear is placed on a huge treadmill runway. The treadmill has a clever design and always matches the speed of the plane, but runs in the opposite direction. Will the plane take off and fly or not?

I say the plane will take off (see this digg thread or this one or millions of other ones if you search on google.)

Sunset in Capetown

Happened to be standing outside last night and lookup for a change and saw a brilliant pink sky. So of course I ran indoors to grab my camera and take a few pictures.

Too many files open…

Too many files open...I’m not exactly sure what my computer was up to while I was at work today. But when I arrived home today I couldn’t get the screensaver to bring up the login screen, but the machine was responding to pings…

So I CTRL+ALT+F1 to get a console and try login, and I get the error on the right…

“Cannot execute /bin/bash: Too many files open.” which basically means I couldn’t login at all… so I rebooted and everything seems to be ok now.. weird.

Blogroll’s and Friends who blog…
